Le Ciné-club: THE FILM SOCIETY presents unforgettable screenings of great works of cinema.

Since 1992, we have been bringing Montrealers the best of cinema from around the world with films dating from the 1890s to the 1990s. From local experimental works to Hollywood Blockbusters in cinemascope….there is something for everyone!
We don’t just watch films, we experience them…on genuine motion picture film!
Now in residence at a new venue downtown, this cultural group dedicated to the art of cinema is proud to present a series of Sunday night screenings of classic and important works. Open to all, we invite cinéphiles to come and enjoy our big screen offerings. All features are preceded by rare and exciting short films. With coffee, tea, water and fine home-baked deserts available at intermission!

My name is Elias Cristante and I am a Canadian graduate student passionate about cinema.
As you may know, 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu, famous for his 1953 masterpiece Tokyo Story (Tōkyō monogatari). With new technology and international distribution, more people than ever before have the possibility of discovering his life-changing art. I have taken the responsibility of forming a group dedicated to sharing his movies in partnership with existing film societies, cultural associations and universities. Ozu has had enormous influence on other masters, such as Jim Jarmusch, Paul Schrader, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Martin Scorcese, Aki Kaurismaki and Wim Wenders, and I hope to ensure this legacy will grow. To stop watching Ozu’s films is to lose part of our universal artistic heritage.
If you are interested in organizing a screening of one or two of his works in the coming season, please contact me at this address. I would love to collaborate on any project to preserve Ozu’s artwork.
Regards
Elias Cristante
